About

About

Grotto opened in 2011 as a project space for work that mainstream galleries found difficult to place: grotesque figuration, unresolved abstraction, and material practices that treat decay as a working method rather than a flaw.

We mount six shows a year across a single floor and one dedicated project room — the Sculpture Room — reserved for work that needs a full-time installation rather than a wall. We represent four artists directly and exhibit a rotating roster of guests alongside them.

We are not interested in shock for its own sake. Every piece we show is doing something specific with material, form, or process; the discomfort is a byproduct of honesty, not the goal.
